Re-Introducing Critical Hits charts.

Does anyone remember the old Critical hits charts from the 2E game ? I was toying around with the notion of re-inventing them as a house rule for my campaigns.

This chart was taken from another Dungeons and Dragons message board-

I'm borrowing a hit location chart from runequest for critical hits (instead of a damage multiplier, you actually get broken bones).
the assignment is based on a d20 roll, but is only good for humanoid creatures. I think it would need an entirely different assignment for a horse, and yet another for an aboleth, etc...
anyone know of any good hit locations for varied body types?
the one I'm using is (iirc):
1-3: left leg
4-6: right leg
7-10: abdomen
11-12: left leg
13-14: right leg
15-18: chest
19-20: head
points are assigned based on Con, a location modifier, and a size modifier (so a halfling might have 2 points in her head, but a dragon might have 50).

I think the main reason why they got rid of the critical hit system is because players were getting the short end of the stick. It is very easy for a low-level monster to kill a 20th-level Player character.

We actually still use those rules for our Game today! It makes a critical hit even more exciting.

I hated the critical system for 2e, one time my character got her head chopped off.

Using the old critical hit system is a baaaad idea. Players die waaay too quick that way. You want your players to stick around for awhile I would assume ?
