Alright I read that MinMax Monk guide but it doesn't say specifically what scores are needed for what. So someone wanna give me a hand on how I should work with my monk with the ability scores of... Str: 13 Dex:17 Con: 13 Wis:16 Int:10 Chr:13 Any help would be appreciated.

Ha! Ha! You gets no help here! Trying to be a power-monger, huh? Trying to be a munchkin, heh? Well this yellow-brick road will only bring you to ruin! Remember, there's more to monks than neck-snapping. ;D But seriously, I give you props for Tenrou's portrayal. I know he's still new and you're trying to find his niche, and you're doing a good job. I could care less about min/maxing his abilities, trying min/maxing his personality and individual traits. Plus, I PROMISE I will have mucho player-handouts for you on Wed. We gotta start filling up up his file before Alexus makes more jokes about his "nakedness". Worry less about the stats and more about his actual background. Know your history, your land and your customs. And this vital history-lesson is all me -- I promise I'll have all the paperwork ready for you on Wed. Come a lil earlier if you want. peace, LocdOut and good luck on your character optimizations! MSD

They can be so entertaining to role-play though.
I always like the Master-Grasshopper persona as well as all the colorfull ways to describe an unarmed attack.

Monks suck eh? I don't know who gave you guys those ideas. You just gotta play your cards right. And yes MSD I know I gotta tweak his background and personality. I'm still getting outta the Vincent role. Give it a few more gaming sessions with Tenrou and i'll have his personality down pat. I just need some more stuff for file to like you're saying and then I can make a solid background. Anyways i'll seeya tonight heh. Oh and the reason i'm worrying about giving him some good feats is because I don't want him to suck I don't want to play a character that sucks you know? Anyways I have some thoughts on some ill feats so we'll see what's good.
Peace.

I made a human monk that made it to 13th level before the campaign ended.
I did have some trouble trying out a Half-Orc Monk. I created 4 of them that each died at 1st level and 1 at 2nd before giving up on that combo.

Any class can make it past 1st Level if played right. I have a 4th Level Sorceress. Do you know how many times people told me I could not make it past 1st Level ? Let me tell you it was more than once.

Acting like we are on the WizO boards eh ?
Bottom line, my players do not like monks, heck I do not really think that much of them either. However Tenrou has a monk that he has managed to gain levels with(Maybe he should start a thread and let others know his secret.)
Thread re-opened for posting.

I have to say before I start this post that I am biased to any class that is not amongst fighter classes. But while the short time I have been playing dnd the weakest player I have come across was, yes you said it the Monk. I think that there is really no way to make him strong unless you get all really good scores. Which is highly unlikely if you get two high scores and the rest average then you are lucky. Monks have nothing to fall back on. No magic spells, no healing spells nothing. So I have to say that then monks are not the easiest classes to play just my opinion.

I made a half-orc monk and he rocked as he got the 20 strength. (I was rolling like a god that day.)
Good dex, good wis and good str makes a monk able to participate in combat otherwise he hangs back to protect the wizards. Period.
Sure when (if) you get higher in levels you can do lots of neat stuff but in no way does it compare to a fighter, in good armour slashing at you with his +3 greatsword 4 or 5 times a round plus all the the nasty fighter feats he seems to get each freaking level.
So, to cap it off, I like monks but they are not frontline damage soaks. You have to play them smart. Use their amazing speed, skill ranks due to no armour (no negative I mean) and suprise your opponents.
